Pownce

"Pownce is a way to send messages, files, links, and events to your friends. You'll create a network of the people you know and then you can share stuff with all of them, just a few of them, or even just one other person really fast."

Bookmarking and social sharing trends

The bookmarking space continues to change, driven by changes in desktop software as well as modern web usage such as bookmarklets, extensions, and social sharing, but it's clear we're just getting started. Let's take a look at current methods of bookmarking a web page, and how individuals choose to share personal and social browsing behavior.
"I doubt many people would save an article to del.icio.us if they knew the free version would soon disappear, so the conclusion I draw from this is that the newspaper just wants a quick boost to their readership from whatever links they can get."
Sara Kehaulani Goo at the Washington Post writes an article about our own Corey Spring, Jason Calacanis, Sarah Gim, Wayne Welch, and Derek Van Vliet. Calacanis quips in the article: "[The Navigators] have a different skill set analogous to other jobs out there but perhaps most analogous to 'cool hunting.' It's almost like urban archeology."
This is a must-read for anyone using social bookmarking. Fantastic, and incredibly needed right now...
As a result of the success I'm thrilled to announce we are hiring 10 more Navigators. We've filled five of these ten positions so far, so we have 15 of 20 slots filled.
Congratulations to Tim on submitting his 1000th Netscape story! (Just noticed his profile, when I went to vote for some of his stories.) Thanks for setting the high standard -- keep up the great work!
Good info from Neophile: "I've been asked how I handle URLs on sites like Digg and Netscape. The URLs you choose to submit actually make quite a difference. Their uniqueness plays a big factor in getting promoted to the front page."
The author talks to 11 of the top 30 users on digg for their advice on how to get listed to the front page. Several of these guys are now at Netscape, and the advice is applicable for any social bookmarking website.
"I have been chatting with a few of our new Netscape Navigators today after one of them mentioned that...there has been some sort of change in the Digg algorithm." Has Digg changed their algo to punish popular users?
Netscape Navigator Neophile interviewed about coming over from Digg: "Bloodjunkie (real name Derek van Vliet, now known as neophile on Netscape.com) was the first to sign up. I asked him if being part of a group intake had helped his decision."
One user's anger over the paid members. Someone accused me of writing this blog, but I didn't. I know who did though.
"You have two cows" is the beginning phrase for a series of political joke definitions. "You have two cows" jokes originated as a parody of typical introductory-level economics course material examples featuring a farmer in a moneyless society, using his cattle and produce to trade with his neighbors.
Uniques have dropped by 22%, and page views have dropped by a whopping 75%, erasing all gains in traffic this year. Del.icio.us is effectively at the same traffic levels as they were when it was acquired in December 2005. And while the numbers may be off, the trends shown are probably more reliable.
"My hope is that the first 10 Navigators do such an amazing job that we can extend our offer out to other members of the DIGG, NEWSVINE, and REDDIT top 10."
"Netscape has raised some eyebrows with their pending paid social news editors aka 'Netscape Navigators' and now they've finally revealed them. Netscape just added the section on the right hand side of their main page." via Digg: http://digg.com/tech_news/Netscape_Paid_Social_News_Editors_Revealed
